General

No—you do not need a referral to see a specialist orthodontist.

The first step in getting started at Sunrise Orthodontics is arranging an evaluation with Dr Daniela. You can request that booking online or by calling our team.

During that first visit, Dr Daniela will gather information about your smile through photos, a thorough exam, x-rays, and digital impressions of your teeth. This information allows her to assess your treatment needs and recommend the best orthodontic procedures for your unique smile.

We Treat Adults and Children at Sunrise Orthodontics

At Sunrise Orthodontics, we welcome children, teens, and adults who are seeking proper bite alignment and smile aesthetics.

It's recommended that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around the ages of seven to nine. Most kids will start orthodontic treatment during their teenage years; however, some children can benefit from early orthodontic treatment in Erina.

Early interception takes advantage of the early developmental stage to adjust jaw growth patterns, improve function, and facilitate comprehensive orthodontic treatment during the teenage years.

We offer traditional clear and metal braces for teens and adults. Dr Daniela will also partner with a trusted oral and maxillofacial surgeon for adults who need surgical orthodontic treatment.

We invite you to contact your specialist orthodontist on the Central Coast and look forward to helping you achieve your smile goals.

A Specialist Orthodontist is initially trained as a general dentist and then undertakes an additional 3 years or more of study to earn a Clinical Doctorate Degree in Orthodontics. This advanced training focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of mal-positioned teeth and jaws, as well as misaligned bite patterns.

Dr Daniela is a Specialist Orthodontists registered with the Australian Health and Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners with Spark and Invisalign offer patients several benefits they appreciate.

#1 Aligners are Removable for Meals

With clear aligners, you won't have to change your diet, and you can enjoy all your favourite foods during treatment.

#2 No Changes to Your Home Care Routine

Brushing and flossing are simple tasks when you can remove your aligners. You also won't have to navigate your toothbrush and floss around brackets and wires.

#3 No One Will Notice You're Straightening Your Teeth

Since aligners are clear, they're virtually invisible, and no one will ever know that you're completing orthodontic treatment.

#4 Clear Aligners Are Comfortable to Wear

Clear aligners fit snugly against your teeth, and because they're smooth, they're easy and comfortable to wear for at least 22 hours each day.

#5 You Can Change Your Aligners at Home

Changing aligners at home every few weeks makes orthodontic treatment simple and efficient. The Dental Monitoring app helps Dr Daniela keep track of your treatment progress from home, meaning fewer clinic visits and less time needed from your busy schedule.

Early Prevention

It is recommended that children have their first visit to the orthodontist by age seven to nine to determine if they might benefit from early orthodontic treatment.

If they are a candidate for early treatment, it would start now. If not, they'll be re-evaluated around the age of 12. Most kids begin orthodontic treatment around age 12 if they need it.

When Do Children Need Early Orthodontic Treatment?

Early orthodontic treatment can minimise issues for children with jaw size discrepancies or bite problems. It takes advantage of their growth and development to improve function and better facilitate comprehensive orthodontic treatment during the teenage years.

What Happens During Early Orthodontic Treatment?

Depending on the child's needs, interceptive orthodontic treatment may include early braces, an appliance, or both. Some of the appliances Dr Daniela may recommend are:

  • Removable appliances
  • Space maintainers
  • Expanders
  • Growth modifying appliances

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment on the Central Coast

If your child needs early orthodontic intervention, there are some significant advantages for their smile, dental health, and confidence that accompanies the treatment.

Correcting jaw alignment early, while your child is still growing, is much easier. It also promotes better tooth alignment, making it easier for your child to brush and floss. They will also enjoy improved chewing function, making it easier to try new foods and expand their diet.

Fixed Braces

In many cases, braces or clear aligners can achieve the desired outcome. However, braces may be the better choice for some patients with more complex bite concerns.

The best way to determine the right orthodontic treatment for your smile is to book an evaluation with a specialist orthodontist like Dr Daniela at Sunrise Orthodontics.

During an evaluation, she'll use an exam, x-rays, photos, and digital impressions to determine your needs and then create a customised treatment plan.

She'll review your treatment options, discuss timelines for completing your new smile, and what the cost will be. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your treatment needs and the plan to achieve your smile goals.

When Should I Have an Orthodontic Evaluation?

Children should have their first orthodontic evaluation around age seven to nine to see if early orthodontic treatment would benefit them.

Most kids start orthodontic treatment around age 12 and should have an evaluation at that time.

Adults can have an orthodontic evaluation whenever they think the treatment might be beneficial. Some adults never had the chance to align their teeth during adolescence, while others may have had previous orthodontic treatment but have experienced tooth movement or shifting since then.

We welcome your call to our Erina orthodontic clinic if you'd like to arrange a booking with Dr Daniela.

Your First Visit and Life with Braces

An intraoral scanner lets us capture 3-D images of your teeth, which Dr Daniela can use to diagnose your treatment needs. This is all done with a simple, quick, and comfortable scan, eliminating the need for the messy alginate impressions we took in the past.

How Do We Use 3-D Imaging?

We can create a mould of your teeth using 3-D imaging, which Dr Daniela can use to fabricate oral appliances and for treatment planning.

If you choose clear aligners, Dr Daniela will use the 3-D images to create your treatment plan, which Spark or Invisalign uses to create your custom aligners.

Dental Monitoring

Dental Monitoring is another option we use to streamline treatment for efficiency. Using your smartphone and an app, Dr Daniela can monitor your progress when you scan images of your teeth with a scan box provided by Dental Monitoring.

This innovative technology eliminates the need for frequent visits to our clinic, which can be beneficial for our Central Cost patients who travel a distance to see us.

Most kids begin orthodontic treatment around age 12. However, some children can benefit from early intervention to address bite or jaw size discrepancies and facilitate easier tooth alignment during the teenage years.

That's why it's recommended that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age seven to nine. Dr Daniela will evaluate their tooth, jaw, and bite positioning to determine if early orthodontic treatment would be beneficial.

The first phase of orthodontic treatment may include early braces, an oral appliance, or both. We typically follow that with a second phase of regular orthodontic treatment around age 12, focusing on tooth alignment.

It's Never Too Late to Love Your Smile!

Adults can see an orthodontist when they want to align their teeth, correct their bite, or both.

Many adults who had orthodontic treatment during adolescence have experienced tooth shifting over time and would like better alignment. Clear aligners with Invisalign or Spark can be ideal for these situations.

Dr Daniela also helps adults needing surgical orthodontic treatment to properly align their jaws. She works closely with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to coordinate the surgical procedure around orthodontic treatment and tooth alignment.
